Statistics Seychelles

Statistics on average number of persons in formal employment and average monthly earnings (gross) are compiled quarterly by industry and sector.

Industry classification: UN International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC) Rev 3.1 (Now using the UN ISIC Rev4)
Sector classification: Private, Parastatal, Government

Source data:

  • Private sector – Social Security administrative records supplemented with data obtained from large firms through mail questionnaire. As from July 2010 when the personal income tax was introduced through the Income and Non-Monetary Benefits Tax Act, data for the private sector is obtained from Seychelles Revenue Commission (SRC).

  • Parastatal sector – Data obtained from payroll system and also directly from parastatal organisations through mail questionnaire

  • Government sector – Mostly obtained from government payroll maintained by Treasury department in the Ministry of Finance and for the others, directly from the respective Ministry/Department.


As from 2006, employment and earnings data for the government and parastatal sectors are published disaggregated by gender (males & females) and by local versus expatriate.

Data on unemployment, occupational accidents and expatriate employment etc, are collected by the Employment Division in the Ministry of Employment and Social Affairs.

As part of the ongoing effort to become the centre of excellence for the production and dissemination of statistics, the National Bureau of Statistics is undertaking a series of exercises and consultations with the source data providers, to improve on the quality of statistics that are compiled and published by the Bureau in specific areas
